Descriptions
Parents & Tots
Parents & Tots is a great opportunity for a parent to participate with a child's early ice experience.
Some instruction and activities are included depending on the mobility of the beginner.
This program is designed for Tots who are 2-3 years of age.
CSA approved helmets are mandatory for the Tot. Adults are urged to wear a helmet if they are unsure of their skating ability.
All Tots must be accompanied by an adult on the ice also wearing skates.

Preschool
The main goal of this program is to have fun on the ice while helping the new skater overcome their initial fear.
We also create an environment for the more experienced preschooler to improve their skill level.
Each session is based on group instruction, including a warm-up, skill development, activities and games.
CSA approved helmets are mandatory. Parents are requested to refrain from coming onto the ice surface,
unless requested by an instructor.

Learn To Skate and Skill Development
Learning to skate, and building on the basic skills in order to increase the skater's confidence on the ice,
is the focus of this program.
Ice-Tech will help a skater get ready to progress into hockey, ringette or figure skating.
Each session is based on group instruction, including a warm-up, skill development instruction and activities. Extra
attention is given to using more of the ice surface, not just one small corner.
Skaters will begin at their current level and progress accordingly.
CSA approved hockey helmets are mandatory. Parents are requested to refrain from coming onto the ice surface,
unless requested by an instructor.

Adult
Skating is great exercise and a very challenging activity that develops a person both mentally and physically.
Ice-Tech delivers an enjoyable, rewarding experience on the ice. Finding out first-hand what our children go
through while learning the entry-level skills of skating, is also very eye-opening.
This program will develop basic skating skills and introduce actual figure skating skills, in a group format.
Some previous skating experience is recommended. Wearing a helmet is strongly suggested if you are unsure of
your skating ability. Please use only CSA approved helmets.

Figure Skating
Finished with Learn To Skate? Do you want to begin actual figure skating? We have a great program for the beginner figure skater.*
Jumping, spinning and other skills for figure skating are covered.
There are no specific requirements for this program, other than basic skating ability. Skaters will learn what
is needed in this program. The skates should be of reasonable quality. Ask for assistance.
Wearing a helmet is strongly suggested if you are unsure of
your skating ability. Please use only CSA approved helmets.

General Information
Coach ratios are some of the lowest in the region and surrounding areas at 5 to 1 and sometimes as low as
3 to 1 for the Preschool levels, and 10 to 1 for the older children and/or adults.
Most sessions are 50 minutes. Check the schedule page for details.
Skaters are grouped according to age and current skating level so that the coaches can effectively develop
lesson plans that will work on the types of skills that a group of skaters may need to work on.
This flexibility, in our experience, creates a better class environment and helps reduce the potential for skaters to become bored.
Each season the skaters are re-grouped according to their current skating skills. This again, allows for the skaters
to work on skills that are relevant to their current circumstances, rather than pre-determining the curriculum.
These groups are not absolute, but rather an attempt to maintain an organized well structured session. Groups can be reviewed
but are generally set for one season at a time by the coaching staff.
As a reminder, helmets (hockey style) are mandatory for Tots, Preschool and Learn To Skate.
A face guard is also strongly recommended.
Helmets are also recommended for Figure Skating and all Adults including adults in the Parents & Tots program.
